The US midterm elections were on Tuesday 3 November, and the results are still rolling in. Networks have projected a Democratic win of the House, while several Senate and governor races remain too close to call. Some states count mail-in ballots for days, so a handful of seats may stay open well into next week.
One result that got attention: in North Carolina, former governor Roy Cooper was projected to win a Senate seat for the Democrats. But with the House, Senate and statehouses all in play, the full picture will take a while to settle.
What changes now
The new Congress takes office in January. Until then, the current one stays in session, which means a lame-duck period with a few busy weeks. For Americans abroad, the practical parts are the ones that touch daily life: tax rules, passport processing, and how the next administration handles consular appointments.
If you voted from abroad, your ballot counted in the state where you last lived. That state also decides which races you could vote on, which is why the map looks different depending on who you ask.
Following the results from another country
Election night coverage is live television, and the big US networks run it for hours. After a move abroad, the apps you used back home often stop working in your new country. That is licensing, not a glitch on your side.
The simplest fix is a channel line-up that still includes the networks you know. Our Channels & Coverage page lists what is available per country, and the free 24-hour test lets you check your own line-up before paying anything.
